Kids for Christ is a time for children to come to know and respond to Jesus. After a children’s talk in the 9am service at St George’s church, Birkdale, primary school-aged children go to the hall for their own time of worshipping and fun activities.
For the past 3 years we have used the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum as it is firmly Bible based and provides a wide range of learning experiences using such strategies as storytelling, art, music and drama that suit a variety of learning styles. Each session begins with a worship session and ends with encouraging compassionate service.
It is an international curriculum that follows the lectionary readings of the church. [The lectionary is the schedule of scripture readings used during church services. They are arranged so the bible story is told over the year.] This enables the leaders to show the children connections with church worship and the congregation.
Our groups are small enough to offer the children the opportunity to work with others of different ages. Whether they are working in a teacher led activity or independently, they are encouraged to help and respect one another.
We meet on the Sundays during term time. During holiday time, the service is adapted so the children can actively participate in worship.
