Kunming, China

In February 2008 Errol Fender went to China where he was part of a team of 10 people from Australia that spent a month building a house in the Kunming Region. The site is out of town in an isolated area and the living standard in this area is reported as “3rd world”.

Errol had to sleep on the floor with heavy doonas for the cold winter nights. Errol stopped over in Hong Kong for a half day protocol briefing. No English is spoken in the area necessitating the use of an interpreter. In China they were only allowed to take bibles for their own use. Errol and his friends attended a local Church for expatriates. They had to show their passports before being allowed to enter. It was an exciting experience and the parish enjoyed the presentation on Errol’s experiences when he returned.
