The Blessing of The Loft by Bp Geoff Smith took place at The Loft in Andrew St Wynnum (behind Mansons Picture Framing and adjacent to the railway line) on Sat 24th April.
The Loft has been developed to assist young people who are considered “at risk”, to re- engage with society through the medium of boat building.
Whilst gaining the satisfaction of boat construction, they will, in the course of building boats, receive accreditation towards a Certificate 1 in Engineering. For those participating, it offers an incentive to progress their studies at TAFE. This is a very excitibng concept.
Over the past weeks a “Train the Trainer “ programme has been undertaken to ensure that the young people receive the best mentoring possible.
Currently Fire Bug dinghies are being built and will be sailed by those young people building the craft who would like to further participate.
SAILS at Bayside looks forward to a productive season ahead through this additioanl outreach programme.
SAILS at Bayside is thankful to the support given by Ken Burkitt (Electrician and member of Wynnum Manly Rotary) and Wynnum Manly Rotary Club for the electrical fit-out of The Loft.

Hi I am a 40yr old living in Manly. I work in Child Safety and am a passionate sailor, having rebuilt my own 33ft Trimaran last year. I have always wanted to bring sail boats and young people together, for the benefit of both, and here you are!
How can I get involved?
