Ian Carr

Ian Carr Parish Councilor - Outreach Director

Ian Carr is a member of the parish council with responsibility as Outreach Director for the parish. Ian and Margaret were married at St Georges in 1974 and have four adult children. Before his retirement in January 2008, Ian was a Project Manager of IT projects relating to mapping with a State Government department.

He commenced attending St George’s church in December 1968, and apart from a 5 year period where he and Marg attended St Paul’s Manly, has worshipped at St Georges ever since. The main factor that has kept drawing Ian to St George’s is the friendliness of the people and the acceptance of all; by parishioners and clergy alike, regardless of ecumenical or churchmanship background

Ian accepted nomination as a member of parish council because he felt that now he is retired, he could devote more of his time to hopefully make a positive contribution in the parish.

In his younger years, Ian was an avid cricketer and keen tennis player. Both these sports were played at Redlands district level; with cricket culminating in his being selected as a part of the Queensland Country team to play against the English MCC team at Cleveland Showgrounds in November 1970.

Ian is currently involved with the combined Alpha committee as the Anglican Parish of Waterloo Bay representative. The combined churches cover the Anglican, Catholic and Uniting churches in the Birkdale, Thorneside and Wellington Point area.

He is also involved with the Anglican Sailing Adventures In Life Skills (SAILS at Bayside) which provides sailing and kayaking experiences for young people in general and those at risk.

As a part of his Outreach Directorship, he is a member of the Local Chaplaincy Committee at Wellington Point High School.
